Combining Gologin and VPN: Enhancing Profile Security
Using a VPN with Gologin is one way to add a layer of security to your IP address, but it's important to understand when and when not to use this method.
VPN and Proxy are two different tools for different purposes.
Gologin allows you to configure a separate proxy for each profile, which is the recommended method for giving each profile an independent IP address. However, in some cases, users may want to add a VPN.
VPN vs. Proxy: The Key Difference
- VPN (Virtual Private Network): Encrypts and reroutes **all** of your computer's internet traffic. All applications on the machine will go through the VPN.
- Proxy: Only reroutes the traffic of **a specific application or profile** (in Gologin's case) without encryption.
When to Consider Using a VPN with Gologin?
The main use case is to protect your original IP address. When you connect to a proxy server from Gologin, without a VPN, the proxy provider can see your real IP address. By enabling a VPN first, you hide your real IP from the proxy provider.
The traffic flow will be: Your Computer -> VPN Server -> Proxy Server -> Target Website.
Limitations to Note
- Slower speed: Going through two intermediary servers (VPN and Proxy) will certainly reduce connection speed.
- Risk of conflict: Some VPN configurations might conflict with how Gologin manages connections, leading to errors.
- Not a replacement for Proxies: A VPN cannot provide a separate IP for each profile. All profiles will still go through the same VPN IP if you don't configure individual proxies.
In conclusion, for managing multiple identities, using high-quality proxies for each Gologin profile remains the most optimal and effective method. Using an additional VPN should only be considered as an extra security measure in specific cases.
