Finding a Free VPS: Options That Don't Require a Credit Card
Most major VPS providers require a credit card for verification. However, there are some special options and programs that allow you to experience a virtual server for free.
Take advantage of free tiers to learn and develop your projects.
Finding a permanently free, well-specced VPS with no verification is very difficult, as providers need to prevent abuse. However, you can focus on the 'Free Tier' plans from major tech giants.
Noteworthy 'Free Tier' Plans
- Oracle Cloud Free Tier: This is currently the best option. Oracle offers an 'Always Free' plan that includes two AMD virtual machines, 4 ARM CPUs, and a total of 24 GB of RAM, along with other resources. The registration process may still require a card for initial verification, but it will not be charged for services within the 'Always Free' tier.
- Google Cloud Platform (GCP) Free Tier: GCP provides one free e2-micro virtual machine per month, sufficient for running small applications.
- Amazon Web Services (AWS) Free Tier: AWS also has a 12-month free tier for new accounts, including 750 hours of t2.micro server usage per month.
A Note on 'No Visa Card Required'
Most reputable providers (Oracle, Google, AWS) still require international payment card information during registration to verify that you are a real user. However, they will not charge you if you only use resources within the free tier limits. Always read the terms carefully to avoid unexpected costs.
Be wary of websites advertising lifetime free VPS with no information required, as they may be scams or offer very poor and insecure performance.
